So I have been crazy busy with our move from theย desertย to the West Coast, we now live just a few blocks from the ocean ๐Ÿ™‚

I am still trying to get the house “together” again but I have to say it looks like home already and that’s most important! Time for fiber fun again!

Yes, the puppy Snugglesย โค the walks at the beach on a very very regular base, he missed running in the sand sooo much and don’t forget the part that you get “wet” from the waves!!!

So as you all know I have stopped working (due to my health) and my Etsy/eBay stores are permantly closed but I will continue designing for knitters and crocheters. My current patterns are available on Craftsy and Ravelry.

I have been thinking about doing a KAL (knit-along) or a CAL (crochet-along) to share all the fiber fun and for you to be able to join, ask questions, learn, enjoy. Feel free to comment and visit my KAL/CAL Ravelry Group !!!

The first thing that comes to my mind is I need some fast knit or crochet Christmas ornaments so let’s start with an easy/simple KAL or CAL. If you have something in mind let me know by sharing it in your comment (links to patterns too please!).

KAL OR CAL??? COMMENT BELOW FAST so we can start ASAP!!!

Hubby was home over the weekend so I try to work less and devote my time to my little family…I did work on some sample knitting for my new patterns. I personally like to offer you my patterns worked up in at least two or more different color combinations, so you can see the possibilities. Downside is that it takes me a little longer before I release my patterns but I think it’s worth it ๐Ÿ˜€

These two I made for fun a few weeks ago…

Lately, I have been using my iPad a lot for writing my blogposts the night before I am posting them. The hard part is “writing” for me…I forget what I wanna share but I found a solution: this awesome application called “sticky notes” in the iTunes Store for free and it’s like my brain get a break…I can easily write quick sticky notes during the day and at night I can look at the app what I can use to write about here on my blog. No more forgetting!!! ๐Ÿ™‚ You have several colors to choose from and you can adjust the font and font size. Did I tell u it’s FREE??? Yes, it’s free!!! I give it 5 stars!!!

It’s still over 100 degrees Fahrenheit here in the SoCal desert, so I rather stay inside working or in the pool. I don’t mind the dry heat but there are days that it exhausts me to deal with it…ah well, my hand dyed fibers dry in a few hours and that is just great!!!

Every morning when I let the puppy run outside in the yard, I look at the miniature cactus that I bought at the 99ct store 2years ago and that now stands approx. 6ft tall (just like me). It amazes me who fast it grows…let me share a picture of my 99ct cactus…

I have several more of these 99ct cacti in our yard and they all are growing like weed ๐Ÿ˜€

So today there was dyeing planned so in the next few days I will put up the new colored fibers in my Etsy Shop. I dyed a bunch of sock yarns and worsted weight yarns too for the mini skeins.ย  I love how these mini skeins look and I have some of them pinned to my memo board to cheer me up:

The mini skeins, sold in my Etsy Shop BeautifulYeahYarns, are loved by those who are working on the hexipuff quilt (beekeepers quilt) and those who do color work ๐Ÿ™‚ย  I just wish I had more time to make such a big quilt…but I have my other 2 crochet blankets that I need to finish. (See post crochet blankets)

I get really inspired by the whole yarn bombing mania so when I have time this week I will try to visit some thrift stores and look for a footstool that needs some fiber TLC makeover. Of course I will post about it here on my blog!!!

See, those sticky notes are really working better for me, I have a bit more text than usual ๐Ÿ˜€ Now I’m going to relax for a few minutes and prepare dinner for my hubby… Thank you all for reading and commenting on my blog posts…I must be writing about things that interest more people ๐Ÿ™‚

Oh one more thing: Halos of Hope Fundraiser…go check it out and support the charity by reading this post!!! It’s a charity that helps out cancer patients… Thank you Benjamin Levisay (XRX) and Pam Haschke (Halos of Hope)ย for reminding me!!! You have my support!!! ๐Ÿ˜€

Goodnight everyone, sweet dreams and stay healthy!!! And stay creative!!!

what I have been doing today…

Well, what did I do today?

Don’t you some times have this “blackout” if someone asks you what you did today? I do but than my friends remind me…you do so much, I wouldn’t be able to remember what I did if I did as much as you do. How the heck do you do it?

Ehhhh…I don’t see it as doing a lot, I see it as things need to be done… ๐Ÿ™‚

Any way, today I got up, made my morning coffee while puppy Snuggles was doing his rounds checking out if something might have changed while he was “off duty”. Crawled behind my computer,ย dealt with all my emailsย and decided that my blog was due for a makeover…so a lot of decision all of a sudden (due to too many choices LOL). Finally after a few hours in front of the computer (working on several other things too) and straighten the house out again, I came up with this new layout what you see now. What do you think?

After that I went to do my daily errands, groceries, post office etc..came back unloaded my car, put everything in place and looked fresh at my samples for the new patterns. For theย people thatย are following me on my personalย Facebookย (feel free to add me), I found the “lost” pattern of the bottom up (seamless) baby vest.ย It still is not exactly what I had drawn up since it need “something” extra…put that aside and went to have coffee with one of my friends out here to relax, catch upย and have some good laughs…it worked, I had a great time!

I got inspired for some new yarns by a woman thatย was wearing the colors that I wanna use ๐Ÿ˜€ and on top of that I now know what my samples need! Wow, I only need to execute it over the weekend and type out the pattern. One down…few more to go though…

Now I just broke away from my wheel, to write this post,ย were I finished spinning a single in black, white and dark brown…not sure what I am going to do with it but it looks like licorice to me ๐Ÿ˜€

It’s a woolblend (soft) that was in my fiber stash since last year…forgot where I got it already…LOL

This is how the roving looks like but doesn’t look like a “skunk” LOL:

Pictures aren’t great since it is already dark here…

While the puppy is sleeping real close to my spinning wheel, I will continue spinning some red roving for another project…

Oh, don’t forget to sign up for the book of Melissa Leapman that I am giving away for FREE!!! Click here and it will bring you there ๐Ÿ˜€

Have a great weekend and I will, hopefully, see you soon again here on my blog

Book review about Mastering Color Knitting by Melissa Leapman and a GIVE AWAY!!!

Book review for:

“Mastering Color Knitting” by Melissa Leapman

Since I started knitting at the age of 5yr, I was always fascinated by the color knitting my grandmother did in practically all the knitting and crochet projects that she tackled. She was my teacher and kept me highly motivated to keep knitting/crocheting and never to give up. Well…it worked, it became my first loveย but I have to tell you that being born inย Europe helps too, where color knitting is something that is known for all the beautiful sweaters in Fair Isle/Intarsia and so onย ย ๐Ÿ™‚

Think about the (fisherman) sweaters alone…and those stunning coloredย socks, bags and hats…yummy!!!

So I decided to give this beautiful book, that deserves a review,ย from Melissa Leapman about Mastering Color Knitting.

In her book she, first,ย tackles all the basics of color knitting like: how to read color charts, color knitting fundamentals and how to choose your colors for color knitting project.

She will then go to show and teach you:ย stranded knitting (Fair Isle), intarsia and reversable two color knitting. All these subjects have clear instructions, patterns to make gorgeous color knitting projects that will take you to the next level. Even if you have never done any color knitting project, this book is a really great guideline to start you on a new or old love for color knitting.

Further in the book Melissa has over 200 new original stitch patterns and a total of 12 projects to get you ready to try your color knitting skills. Don’t be put off by sewing in the ends but see the final results of your color work. It’s is so worth it!!! I have made many many projects in the past that I have started designing color knits, simply because I think it’s an absolute eyecatcher.

It doesn’t matter if you are a Continental styleย knitter or a British (throwing method) style knitter, it just takes practise like everything else. Myself, I like to knit Continental but that is since that was what my grandma taught me…I can do both but I prefer to hold my strand(s) the continental way using either my left or right hand supportingย the strands.

Back to the book, the instructions are simple and she even included a designer workshop for color knitting ๐Ÿ˜€

A PERFECT ALL ROUND COLOR KNITTING BOOK that I simply LOVE!!!

Thank you Melissa for putting Color Knitting in the spotlight!

You can find Melissa Leapman on FaceBookย and on Ravelry.

(if you click on the picture it will bring you to Amazon so you can read more about the book)

Since I promised a GIVE AWAY on this book, here is how you can participate:

  • subscribe to my blog onย Wordpressย AND newsletterย (I will not spam you or sell your information!)
  • leave your name, country andย email in your comment
  • and make me laugh with a little story about your color knitting if you have tried it and if not, why you have not tried it (what is the thing that puts you off and why you think you are ready now?

So are you ready to WIN this FREE book than leave your comment below BEFORE October 4th, 2012 (midnight PST)…

PS: I did not get paid byย or benefit from, any of theย “parties” involved/mentioned to write or give away this book/review!

I have been sellingย  my handmade items on ArtFire for some time…but I have to cut down on the costs and it seems that all of my costumers prefer my Etsy Shop or my Ebay Store so go have a look at the renewed Ebay Store.

I will be auctioning off my rovings out there…so if you like a deal go visit! Oh, and I have BFL (Blue Faced Leicester Top) dyed roving now too!!! ๐Ÿ™‚

In the mean time Iย set upย a waiting list for custom ordered items since the demand is enormous and I want to make everyone happy by letting them know how long it can take before the receive their purchase. Everything that is listed on Etsy or Ebay is available right away though!

You were sending me message about selling the supplies I use in my creations, so there are a few new categories in my Store to accomodate you, like mohair locks, fire star nylon etc.

Instead of giving you a list of all the new items, just go and see for yourself ๐Ÿ™‚

Etsy Shop

Ebay Store

Have fun and don’t forget to support an artist (me)ย by purchasing a one-of-a-kind handmade item!

Recently finished and sold costum dyeing and spinning orders:

Fingering weight 2 ply (from my handpainted roving)ย

Lace weight 1 ply (from my handpainted roving)

Easter Sunday –> Creative Easter Sunday

Happy Easter everyone!!!

So today I got this urge to be creative therefor I had a lot going on at the same time (which I do most of the time anyway)

First I decided that I was longing to see the roving spun up that I painted with Janice (and her husband) last Wednesday, let me remind you how it looked before…

That came out so pretty with the purple spots in the pink…now the hard part what is it going to be or am I going to spin it up for my Etsy Store. Hmmm…first I am going to spin it up and I am not sure if I will ply it yet. This is the result: 100 yards of this gorgeous yarn spun up on my Mach II (Spinolution) wheel.

While spinning it, the way the bobbin wound the yarn it looked like Easter eggs to me…do you see what I see or am I going nuts ๐Ÿ˜‰

As I was spinning I decide to dye some superwash and some locks in seperate dye baths after one another. Here are some pictures of the before and after:

THE DYE PROCESS:

The drying outside…

love how the light colors pop…

Here are the locks too:

So let me think what did I do else…

oh yes, I soaked/washed part of the Icelandic Fleece. As you can see in the picture…VERY DIRTY but no worries it will come out beautiful and smelling great. A few more days and the whole fleece, that is not washed yet, will be clean and ready to get picked. I will keep you posted on the process ๐Ÿ™‚

I carded up a beautiful art batt of merino wool, mohair and some locks from Namaste Farms. If that doesn’t give you the “summer is coming” feeling, I am wondering what will ๐Ÿ™‚

Now I couldn’t wait so I started spinning it up of course:

Oops…that’s my wheel and the batt on top of the bobbin (yarn)…sorry LOL ๐Ÿ™‚

2nd try…

This really looks so pretty tailspun up on a orange core (cashmere wool blend thread). Since you all wanna see how I do this all I will show you my set up with my wheel:

Don’t you love that iron (VERY HEAVY) flower that prevents my smaller cones from walking away or falling over. I use it mainly for my sewing machine in case I need to use large cones.

This was my creative Easter Sunday day, hope you enjoyed the story and the picture and please feel free to contact me with whatever question you have!!!

Now I have to work on my never ending flower throw…remember this one:

Bye for now and thank you for reading my blog!!!

BTW we broke the July 2011 record on most hits yesterday!!! Guess you all enjoy my creative blog but don’t forget to visit my Etsy Store and support this artist!!! TY!!!
